30 weeks

Fetal development in pregnancy week 30: The light is visible at the end of the tunnel! Your oversized self and amazing growing baby have finally reached the single digits (in terms of weeks till birth)! The fine lanugo hair that has been growing all over their little monkey-like body is going to start falling off this week in preparation for the big day. But don’t be shocked if they’re hairier than you’d anticipated, some babies keep their lanugo until after birth. Still, it’s not any cause to be concerned as it will fall off eventually. No surprises here: your little porker is getting even cuter with increasingly pudgy arms and legs this week thanks to the ever-growing layers of subcutaneous fat. In terms of numbers, they’ll be weighing in at around 3 pounds 12 ounces (or more!) and are nearly 16 inches long.

And how’s mom doing? As for the ongoing joys of being in your third trimester: your not-so-fun symptoms are just intensifying this week, so it might not hurt to slow down a bit and focus on yourself. If you’re feeling extra fatigued, you’ve probably joined the sleeping shouldn’t be this tough when I’m this tired club, especially if you’re experiencing a lot of back pain and general discomfort. If you’ve been pushing the exercise thing, then this is the time perhaps to cut down on the physical activities and focus more on getting proper sleep (if this means buying a pregnancy pillow, then do it!). Oh and all that moodiness? Just go with the flow emotionally. This doesn’t mean letting the hormones win and becoming a complete psychotic. Instead, feel the feelings, but know that the drama you’re feeling is largely a result of increased adrenaline thanks indirectly to hormonal swings—not because things really are that dramatic and merit adult temper tantrums. The clincher symptom for this week: it’s highly likely your libido has gone on sabbatical. This, as far as we’re concerned is perfectly natural in your condition.

There it is. I decided to change a bit here, instead of the usual updates from Baby Center, I am putting up the updates from Baby Gaga, just for the fun of it. It also goes to show how ‘informative’ I am right, besides the online information, newsletter, forums, pregnancy calendar and stuff, I also bought a book on pregnancy. Miahahaha. Hey I just like to be kept well-informed.

I am officially getting very very freaked out about labour, delivery, childbirth, whatever you may call them. Really. Suddenly they seem sooo near to be ignored. Less than 10 weeks!!! By the 36th week I would be considered full term, and kiddo would not be a preemie if she decides to come then. Although… gulp! I wish she wouldn’t… Lately my thoughts has been centred on ‘what if kiddo comes early’. That thought made me unable to sleep at night (well, that, plus the backaches, the restlessness, the discomfort, the kicking and pushing from within, u get the picture). I started getting worried that we hadn’t assembled enough stuff for kiddo, there’s lots more stuff to be purchased, bla bla bla. And the pain!! What if I couldn’t take the pain???

The Braxton-Hicks contractions can be felt more strongly now, even causing discomfort and if it struck while I’m walking, I would have to sit and take a rest. She is getting soo big, the kiddo. Every movement is felt, and I can *almost* master the art of telling which body-part is pushed out. The shape and size is becoming more distinct, and the one part I can confirm would be the head. And sometimes the butt and back hehehehe. If Daddy can hear her heartbeat loud and clear, then it’s the back against my tummy. She’s supposed to be turning around, i.e. the head is supposed to be at the bottom now, but I am quite sure she is not there yet. She is still having fun turning round and round. I read that babies are most active in tummy between weeks 24-28 coz that’s when they have the most space. Does this mean kiddo is small?? But I must say she doesn’t really kick as much as she used to, now her movements are more like changing position ones, pushing and shoving my tummy and yeah of course, her hiccups. Loads of those… every single day. My tummy feels soooo tight lately, like it’s gonna tear or something. hehehe. Especially when kiddo pushes it out, and when she gave me a head-jam into my ribs! And she has lots more growing to do!! Will she have the space? I am albeit expanding no doubt hahahaha but how much more can I expand??? (For the record, I have gained about 5-6kgs, and my waistline is 35 inches!!!!!) I don’t really mind the weight and the size, it’s just that the tummy feels sooo tight and it gets uncomfortable when kiddo moves. I’m definitely not that mobile anymore, with all the aches and I’m starting to feel heavy too. Hahahaa I guess when it gets to 7 months it is almost impossible not to waddle instead of walk hehehehe.

And last night for the first time, I fell on my butt in the middle of the night hahahahaha. Coz I was sooo dizzy and I couln’t sleep proper, instead I could just drift in and out of sleep. When I needed to get to the toilet, I got up and tried to walk in a straight line towards the toilet. Instead I moved sideways, banged everything in my way, tripped over the laundry basket and the carpet and fell near the racks, at Daddy’s side of the bed. Daddy woke up with a jump and tried to support me up, but it’s hard when even he just got out of consciousness hahahaha. It was blardy funny. Talk about being disoriented!

I have a bit more than 2 months before the due date *gasp* it is getting sooo near!!! We got kiddo most of the basic stuff, well by we I meant we got loads of pass-downs and my mom got us lots of stuff, and we just went and completed them over the weekend :D I must say I had fun going around looking for stuff for kiddo, choosing the perfect teat, the right bottle, the sterilizer, napkins, pacifiers, etc. Of course certain things we have to choose ones that match our budget, but overall, I didn’t really mind spending for kiddo, provided it is necessary and not plain waste of money. I even bought a baby book for the care of babies till age 2. Not to say I am not confident of my maternal instincts, I just like to read and learn facts hehehe. Or maybe I am just that tad bit over-excited.

So kiddo, we still have the mission to find your cot mattress, the perfect pillows and cot accessories, buy the bouncer, the tub, the changing pad, and a few other items to await your arrival. Much as I am dreading it, I can’t wait to see you!!!
